When it comes to food tolerances, there comes a time when you have to go on a diet to reduce n the impact a certain food group has on you. The name of this duet is the elimination diet. Simply put, it means removing or avoiding foods from a specific group that you might be allergic to and seeing if your symptoms get way better. Here are different levels of an elimination diet, and they will work differently based on the kind of intolerance you have and how bad the effects are for you. Here are a few things you need to know about the elimination diet.

Phase one

An elimination diet is done in different phases, and in phase one, all the foods in the suspected food group are removed. For instance, if you are suspected of having fructose intolerance, your diet will be stripped of all meals containing fructose. You will have to be on this diet for a couple of weeks so the doctor can see if the symptoms reduce. Aside from the food that contains the intolerant nutrient, any additive with the nutrient will also be removed from your diet. While it might take some adjusting, it is vital to know whether you are allergic to it or not.

Reintroduction phase

Once the week or two has passed, the net phase of the diet would be the challenge or the reintroduction phase. In this phase, the foods that were eliminated will be slowly reintroduced back into the diet. All this will happen while the patient is lowly being monitored. You can know which foods give you the most allergic reactions and which foods can be eaten without an issue. The reintroduction phase is slightly longer since it needs careful monitoring.

Even though it seems like a trial-and-error thing, the elimination diet has more than meets the eye. So many people who have been put on this diet have admitted that it comes with its perks. Here are the main reasons why you should try out the elimination diet.

  • It helps you isolate any foods that might be causing you allergic reactions.
  • It helps you figure out any causes of the allergic reactions you might be having.
  • It helps you identify the triggers you should stay away from.

Food allergies after often difficult to control unless you make deliberate steps to figure out what you need to avoid and what you can eat. While some allergies like lactose are pretty simple to figure out, others need slightly more research. One of the allergies is fructose intolerance. In taking the time to isolate the problem, you can know what you are allergic to and how to go about it. The elimination diet has been proved to be the most effective for figuring out what allergies one has and how to control them. All you need to do as a patient is stay committed to the diet the doctor has set out for you. that way, you can figure out a lasting solution.
