Wooden Cutting Board Used in Kitchen

If you enjoy cooking, you must know how much you can save by cutting your vegetables yourself instead of buying such a ready-made bag. Therefore, you will definitely have one or more cutting boards in your kitchen drawer. You might be thinking that cutting your vegetables yourself may not have the convenience of a ready-made bag. But if you’re doing it correctly, you will never agree with that statement. You probably use your favorite cutting on cutting board every day, but are you doing it correctly?

Here are some mistakes men and women usually make when using a cutting board. All these mistakes are easily recognizable but really not convenient to do;

Same Board for meat and vegetables

Keeping separate keyboards for meat and fruits prevent cross-contamination of food and flavors. The plastic cutting board is ideal for cutting meat or fish, and a wooden cutting board is best suited for vegetables. You can also cut fruits and vegetables on same wooden board. But make sure to wash your board properly just after every cut.

Never cut on a slippery board

Save time and yourself by securing your cutting board on the counter before use. If you are using a plastic board, then buy a cutting board with suction cups on the bottom. You can also place a few sheets of damp paper, cotton rags, or towel under the shelf to keep it firmly in place.

Size does matter

What could be more annoying than a cutting board that is just too small? So give yourself space and buy a shelf that offers enough space to get to work. Do you want to make sure the shelf is big enough? Place the knife you want to use diagonally across the cutting board: if the length of the knife is longer than the board, it is better to grab a larger one.

Keep it out from the dishwasher

Whether you have a plastic shelf or a wooden one: cutting boards should not be put in the dishwasher. If they are exposed to water and heat too often, they can bend and crack. Therefore, scrub your cutting boards by hand with hot water and soap. If you want to be extra careful you can dip the board in a mixture of vinegar and water.

Oil for your wooden cutting boards

Wooden cutting boards can dry out and turn ugly over time. Therefore, lubricate them every time; so often with an odorless and tasteless oil such as almond or grape seed oil or cutting board wax. This prevents the wood from absorbing too much water.

What is wrong with a bamboo cutting board?

Bamboo is much harder than wood, which means that your knives will become dull earlier. If you prefer to use a bamboo board rather than a wooden one. It is good to invest in a good knife sharpener that is suitable for home use.

Don’t be late

As soon as deep grooves form in your cutting board, chances are high that the bacteria will remain there even after cleaning the board. So do not wait too long to replace.
