Detoxify Your Liver with Purifying Foods

Fancy a healthy liver to keep your body healthy and fit? This is possible with a few small adjustments in your eating habits!

A breakfast that spares your liver

Taking care of your liver starts with breakfast. These are some foods that do not harm the liver and you can consume for breakfast:

  1. Coffee: Regular coffee consumption is associated with a healthy liver, which reduces the risk of fibrosis (the first stage in cirrhosis of the liver).
  2. Green tea, as a rich source of antioxidants, keeps your liver supple.
  3. Honey stimulates the liver (especially rosemary honey). But don’t take too much of it, because honey is a form of sugar.
  4. Oat flakes are high in fiber and therefore beneficial for the removal of toxins.
  5. Grapefruit detoxifies the liver by stimulating the production of some enzymes.
  6. Lemon stimulates bile production and thus makes it easier for the liver to digest fats.

Foods that detoxify your liver while you eat

To take good care of your liver, eat one of the following foods with every meal:

  • Black radish: one of the best detoxifying vegetables and therefore very efficient to detoxify and boost your liver.
  • Avocado repairs a damaged liver and is high in antioxidants.
  • Nuts have a detoxifying effect because they help the liver eliminate ammonia (a substance your body produces when some organs malfunction).
  • Garlic contains selenium, which cleanses the liver.
  • Artichoke protects and stimulates the liver.
  • Turmeric: This spice promotes bile production and restores the liver.

Foods you avoid to spare your liver

Healthy food is a first step towards a healthy liver, but it is even better if you can avoid harmful foods.

Alcohol is the biggest danger to your liver! If you drink too much, your liver cannot remove all the toxins. In the long run, alcohol can irreversibly damage your liver and cause cirrhosis of the liver. Cirrhosis of the liver is usually caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The World Health Organization requires women to limit their alcohol consumption to a maximum of one glass of alcohol per day and men to two. You should also abstain from alcohol for a few days a week, so that the liver gets the necessary rest to recover.

If you’re consuming more than the maximum recommended limit, then it’s time to search for alcohol addiction treatment centers near you and get some help from professionals to reduce the alcohol consumption.

The health risks of alcohol are still underestimated. Our advice is therefore to be aware of it and to use it in moderation or not at all.
